The Department of Regulation & Licensing registers and regulates crematory authorities and the cremation of human remains.
2005 Wisconsin Act 31, which was enacted August 15, 2005, created a Crematory Authority Council in the Department of Regulation and Licensing, consisting of the Department Secretary or designee (non-voting member), 3 licensed funeral directors who operate crematories, 3 representatives of cemetery authorities who operate crematories, and one public member.
The Department of Regulation and Licensing is an umbrella agency providing administrative services to the various professional boards, councils and advisory committees.
