1). Pursue
education and experience to fulfill requirements. All applicants will
be required to submit Equivalent Intern Development Program Record
of Experience or the NCARB IDP
Periodic Assessment Report.
An applicant
for registration as an architect shall submit satisfactory evidence
to the examining board:
(a) That he or she has acquired a thorough knowledge of sound construction,
building hygiene, architectural design and mathematics; and
(b)
1. A diploma of graduation, or a certificate, from an architectural
school or college approved by the examining board as of satisfactory
standing, together with at least 2 years’ practical experience
of a character satisfactory to the examining board in the design
and construction of buildings; OR
2. A
specific record of 7 or more years of experience in architectural
work of a character satisfactory to the examining board in the design
and construction of buildings.
Note
: A bachelor of architecture degree from an approved school
or college shall be considered as equivalent to 5 years of experience,
and the completion satisfactory to the examining board of each year
of work in architecture in such school or college without graduation
shall be considered equivalent to one year of experience. Graduation
in a course other than architecture from an approved school or college
shall be considered as equivalent to not more than 4 years of experience.
NCARB
Record Number - Effective May 15, 2008 new applicants wishing
to sit for the examination will require an active NCARB Record prior
to examination. Current IDP Record holders can access their
online account at NCARB and select
"Request a Transmittal." Indicate your Record Number
on the Request to Apply for Architect Examination (Form #1948).
NCARB will forward your IDP Record directly to the Architect Section.
If you are applying for the examination by completing Wisconsin's
Equivalent Intern Development Program Record of Experience, you
must also establish an NCARB record
before you will be granted permission to sit for the examination.
You will need to start a record at NCARB.
You will be assigned a Record Number which you must indicate on
the Request to Apply for Architect Examination (Form #1948).
2). Complete
the Request to Apply for Architect Examination Application.
Applicants
may be eligible to sit for the exam when they have completed 6 years
of education and/or experience and at least 1 year (1860 hours)
of the Intern Development Program Record of Experience.
Pass the
NCARB Architect Registration
Exam.
Notice: A "Rolling Clock" For The ARE
Will Begin On January 1, 2006
During NCARB's
2004 Annual Meeting, a majority of Council Member Boards passed a
resolution officially creating a "rolling clock" standard for the
Architect Registration Examination (ARE). Under the terms of the rolling
clock, which will be officially implemented on January 1, 2006 , candidates
for the ARE must pass the nine-division exam within five years. Three
transitional rules were created for candidates carrying active credit
for one or more of the divisions as of the implementation date of

3. Complete
and submit the Application for Architect Credential.
FOR
APPLICANTS HOLDING AN UNEXPIRED REGISTRATION IN ANOTHER STATE:
1.
Certificate of Registration: an applicant may apply for registration
if he or she has an unexpired registration in another state in which
registration requirements are not lower than those in Wisconsin. The
applicant must pass the NCARB
Architect Registration Examination and have 7 years of architectural
experience (education included). Applicants may apply by using NCARB
Council Record or by direct application.
2.
Temporary Permit: Applicants may be eligible for a temporary
permit to proceed with a pending project during the time it takes
to process an application for registration. The examining board may,
upon completion of the required fee, grant a permit to practice or
to offer to practice architecture to a person who is not a resident
of and has no established place of business in this state, or who
has recently become a resident of this state, if the person holds
an unexpired certificate of similar registration issued to the person
by the proper authority in any state or territory or possession of
the United States when the requirements for the registration of architects
are of a standard not lower than specified in Wis. Stats. Chapter 443 .
Average determination period on temporary permit is 10 days.
REINSTATEMENT
A credential
holder who fails to renew the credential within 5 years after its
renewal date must complete the Application for Credential Reinstatement
for review by the Section. You must submit the experience record
and three applicant appraisal forms from licensed professionals in
your field with the application.

A firm, partnership
or corporation requestig a certificate of authorization shall submit
