Barbering and Cosmetology Practitioner - Credentialing

1). Complete the required training.

Applicant must complete a prescribed cosmetology course of at least 1800 hours in a licensed school of barbering and cosmetology or successfully complete an apprenticeship of 4,000 hours. Detailed information is available in the Wisconsin Statutes and Administrative Code.

2.  Contact Prometric www.prometric.com/wisconsin (1-800-856-4139) for application materials to verify education or training and register for the examination.

Applicants who have completed all training and are scheduled to take the examinations may be issued a non-renewable temporary permit to practice for up to 6 months. Contact Prometric for further information and application materials.

3. Take and pass both the written and practical examinations.

4. Authorization to practice and a license will be mailed upon successful completion of the examination.

Check the FAQs to determine if a credential can be transferred from other States/Countries.

Biennial renewal due by March 31 of odd-numbered years

Common Denial Reason: Applicant has not completed the required number of hours of training or apprenticeship.

Convictions of crimes or pending charges may be grounds for denial of license if the circumstances of the conviction or charge are substantially related to professional practice.
