Professional Boxer - Practice FAQ

The following are answers to some frequently asked questions received by the Department of Regulation and Licensing. These questions and answers are general in nature and are provided as a public service. Licensees and applicants with specific questions should refer to the Wisconsin statutes and administrative code provisions which govern their profession. In any instance in which an answer may differ from the provisions of the statutes and administrative code provisions, the latter will govern.

Q.  Does Wisconsin regulate amateur boxing?

A.  No.  Amateur boxing has been de-regulated.

Q.  Does Wisconsin regulate professional boxing?

A.  Yes.

Q.  What are the rules that govern professional boxing in Wisconsin?

A.  Please review Wis. Admin. Code Chapters 110, 111, 112, 113, 114, 115 and 116.

Professional clubs, promoters, seconds and boxers shall comply with the professional boxing safety act and provide the department with information, copies of documents, identification cards, copies of contracts, disclosures and notifications, as required by the Act.  The Professional Boxing Safety Act may be found in 15 USC §§ 6301 et seq.
