Dentist - Education

Graduate from a Dental school accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Conscious Sedation

Dentists administering anesthesia or sedation (other than nitrous oxide inhalation or anxiolysis) must obtain a permit from the Board. Click on "What's New" for more information.

Once attained, the conscious sedation permit is renewed automatically at the time of license renewal without further education.

Airway Management or ACLS must be current to practice conscious sedation.

Approved Courses To Date

Note to Conscious Sedation Training Providers

The permit application includes form # 2758 for training providers to verify that courses already provided to individuals meet the requirements. Providers must return verification directly to DRL.

If providers have not been board-approved, they may apply for approval by submitting a syllabus that specifies the content, hours and clinical cases contained in the training to    Office of Education and Examinations, Department of Regulation and Licensing, PO Box

8935  Madison, WI 53708. The materials will be referred to the Dentistry Examining Board for review.

CPR and AED must be current to practice dentistry.

Continuing Education Requirements:

2007 Wisconsin Act 31 established continuing education requirements for dentists:

Dentists must now affirm at the time of renewal to having completed 30 hours of continuing education related to the practice of dentistry or medicine. See Wisconsin Act 31 for more details.

NOTE: Continuing education requirements do not apply to the biennium in which a license is first issued.
