Interior Designer - Practice FAQ

Q:  Who may use the title "registered interior designer"?

A:  No person may use the title "Wisconsin registered interior designer" or use any title or description that implies that he or she is so registered, or represent himself or herself as being registered unless the person is lawfully registered in Wisconsin as an interior designer.

Q:  What restrictions exist for interior design firms regarding the use of terms such as "interior designers"?

A:  A firm, partnership, or corporation may use the term "Wisconsin registered interior designer(s)," and may advertise, or make representations that it provides the services of a Wisconsin interior designer only if at least one principal, partner, or officer who is in responsible charge of the interior design services provided by the firm, partnership, or corporation is a Wisconsin registered interior designer.

Q:  Is it possible to become a registered interior designer in Wisconsin if I hold a similar credential from another state?

A:  Yes, it is possible to become a registered interior designer in Wisconsin provided a person holds an unexpired certificate of a similar registration issued by the proper authority in any state, territory, or other country in which the requirements for registration are not of a lower standard than those in Wisconsin.
