Important changes to Foreign Graduate pharmacy internship requirements

Beginning November 1, 2006 , Foreign Graduates desiring to perform a pharmacy internship in Wisconsin will need to follow new changes to the administrative rules governing when and how they can practice as a pharmacy intern.

The changes to the rules will require that prior to performing duties as an intern or to receiving credit for hours participating in a foreign graduate internship a person must file an application with the board for original licensure and submit evidence satisfactory to the board of having obtained certification by the FPGEC.

The changes to the rules also add the requirement that prior to performing duties as an intern or receiving credit for hours in an internship in the practice of pharmacy a supervising pharmacist shall be disclosed in the initial application and any change of a supervising pharmacist shall be disclosed to the board prior to further performing duties constituting the practice of pharmacy as an intern.

The number of hours that can be worked in a foreign graduate internship is reduced from 3000 to 2000.
